Ellis Mill

The windmill, run by Lincolnshire City Council and volunteers, produces stone flour. Open to the public on weekends.

The last of the nine windmills that once stood on top of Lincoln Hill and the last operating mill in Lincoln were built in 1798.

Ellis Mill is now the only survivor of these mills and a very good example of a small tower mill. The mill dates from 1798, but there is a mill from the middle of the 17th century.

The first recorded owner of Ellis Mill was a wealthy landowner named Anthony Meres. It passed through successive owners until December 1894, when John Ellis bought the mill for just £250.

De Molen voor is still in full working order and produces flour for many windy days! The mill is now run by Lincolnshire City Council, but it would not run without a group of dedicated volunteers who help with the maintenance, staffing and promotion of the site. These are some of the volunteers who will take you around the mill.
